During communism national & religious identity was repressed eg going to church, singing folk songs. Without party membership it was difficult to survive financially. All hotels were owned by the state & were largely sold off corruptly to friends of the party after communism collapsed.
Pretty Brela village
Hotel Berulia. Pretty nice. Unfortunately like many ex communist hotels, the income doesn't get to the locals especially with all-inclusive deals & cheap imported staff
