A peaceful day off

The Croatians suffered immensly in the war.  Young men were sent to fight in their tennis shoes with no weapons, 2000 are missing, known to be dead but their families don’t know how or where their bodies are.  Suicide is common amongst those returning.  Margarita who we stayed with told us that for 3 years she barely went to bed at night, constantly scanning the TV for news of her brother sent to fight. Tourism collapsed so families had no income.

The good news is that people are coming back – this place is beautiful & yet largely unspoilt.  Our balcony looked directly across to Brac island, also could see Hvar island

Odjana pension - a tiny village, why did it take so long to find? (especially after all those apricots!)

View from our lovely apartment overlooking the Adriatic sea

The steep hill was worth it

Welcoming Margarita with the sad eyes - she just hopes for peace & the tourists to come back

Breakfast on the patio

A lazy day to walk along the shore...

..and visit the next village Baska Voda

This is supposed to be the sunniest place in Croatia. How can it rain on our only day off?

The blessing

This part of the coast is protected by the fantastic Biokova mountain range (36 x 7km)
